We spent the morning in Casablanca. I am so spoilt. I have three men looking after me. My beautiful husband, our driver Rashid and our guide Elaziz. We left our hotel Hotel Le Doge which was like an oasis in the middle of the city. We were too nervous to venture out on to the streets last night so stayed in and had room service – a club sandwich!
Our first stop was a photo opportunity in front of the restaurant the film Casablanca was filmed in.
Our next stop was Hassan 2 Mosque. This was finished in 1993 and only took 6 years to build. It was built by King Hassan 2. The reason it was built so quickly was the work was carried out 24 hours a day seven days a week. We are visiting Morocco during Ramadan which means it was very quiet in the morning when we visited. By sunset this Mosque has 25000 Muslims praying in and around it. Everything in the Mosque is amazing – 57 Venician glass chandeliers, the roof opens so the Muslims praying don’t get too hot, the doors are made from Titanium and the floor is marble.
We then drove four hours to Fez where we are staying for the next two nights. The drive was on highways that were pretty good. It was a big surprise when our driver had to stop suddenly for a mule on the highway!
Our hotel in Fez is Riad Fes another oasis in a busy dusty town.
