Week Twelve Thursday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for strong pain relief. The plate and bone graft I had done on Tuesday is a lot more painful than I expected. Panadol does not help at all so I am taking regular endone. It helps. I hope this is very short lived because it is yucky.

Today I am grateful that I did not have this operation 3 months ago. The orthopods who were looking after me at the RBH wanted me to have my arm plated two days after the accident. I do not think my recovery would have been so good if I had added the extra stress and pain onto my already broken body. I am grateful my Dad and David were advocates for me at that time and helped me to make the decision to wait.

Today I am grateful that a very dear friend emailed me last night. I had not heard from her in a while and was worried about her. It was a lovely heartfelt email and I send my love and prayers to her today.

Today I am grateful that I can shower myself, dry my own hair and get dressed on my own. Once again it is taking me longer to do because of the latest surgery but I have all day to do it!

Today I am grateful that we have enough money to be able to afford help at home. I have cleaners making my house sparkle today and gardeners making my garden beautiful.

Week Twelve Wednesday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful that the operation on my arm went well. I have a plate and bone graft on my ulna which will hopefully stabilize it.

Today I am grateful for the bonus from the pain relief I had in hospital last night. I had a drip with analgesia I could control with a button. I didn’t need very much but a side effect was it helped my sore back and ribs last night too.

Today I am grateful for running into old friends in the hospital system. It was lovely to see Jane who I know from many years ago nursing – she still looks so young and lovely. I also knew the charge sister of the ward I was in – Sheila .She and I worked as charge nurses at Greenslopes Private Hospital many years ago. It was lovely to hear how all my old work mates are going.

Today I am grateful for the good coffee from the St Andrews coffee shop. It was really good coffee.

Today I am grateful that once again David has taken time off work to look after me and be with me during these hospital visits. It is very comforting to have him take care of me.

Week Twelve Tuesday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful that I got up at 545am and went for a walk.

Today I am grateful for continuing to have meals in our freezer that people have made for us. It means tonight I don’t have to worry about feeding the family – they are having a beautiful home made lasagna.

Today I am grateful that it is nearly spring. My roses and clivia are about to flower.

Today I am grateful for council buses. It means my children can get to school independently and I don’t have to drive them and I don’t have to do the BGGS drop off zone( even though they would love me to drive them everyday…..).

Today I am grateful for Strava……it means I can measure how fast and how far I am walking ……and I can continue to build up my time walking, the distance I walk and how fast I walk.

Today I am grateful that I continue to get better. I do have days where I get frustrated, I have pain and I cry but I  reassess and realize that I am so much better than twelve weeks ago and I am getting pain because I am doing lots more and life is returning to normal.

Week Eleven Monday’s Grateful List

Today I am grateful for the Sunshine After The Rain . I am sitting in my kitchen looking out and everything seems to be glistening.

Today I am grateful I live in Brisbane. We live in a relatively small city and always run into friends whenever we go out.

Today I am grateful that I have a great orthodaedic surgeon looking after me. I am having my ulna plated next week as it is a bit slow to heal. I know I will be in good hands.

Today I am grateful that our dogs don’t sleep in our bed. They are very big snorers  and they would keep me awake!

Today I am grateful that we live on acreage. We used to live on a very busy road and I would wake to the hum of traffic. Now I wake to the happy sounds of kookaburras laughing.

Today I am grateful when I have all my family home. I love sharing dinner together and I love when I go to bed knowing everyone is tucked up in their beds.

Today I am grateful that there is now a pedestrian walk way along the river. My walk this morning was along the Brisbane River.

Today I am grateful that I finished tidying my walk in robe. It has taken me all week but I think it looks fantastic. David is worried I will have more room to buy more clothes now…..( or maybe shoes) .
