Sundays Grateful Post

This week I am grateful that my daughter has graduated. We went to her graduation ceremony on Monday and I couldn’t be prouder.

I am grateful that I finished part of an online course I am doing. I am learning about interpersonal neurobiology and it is wonderful. The knowledge I am learning will help a lot in my work as grief counselor.

I am grateful for my colleagues that I work with. I have had a very challenging week at work and I have been supported beautifully by my team.

I am grateful for the opportunity to sing Christmas Carols around the hospital. I do it every year and it always gives me so much joy.

One of my favorite Christmas Carols.

I am grateful for my family. Christmas can be a very challenging time of year. We all bring expectations about what we want from the season and emotions run high. Mine are running very high at the moment as all our children are about to launch into new adventures around the world.

And I am grateful for Tim Minchin.

Sundays Grateful Post

Life can be hard and so unpredictable. I am reminded of this daily in my work as a grief counsellor. I get touched constantly and deeply by the sadness around me. This week has been exceptionally hard. So…..

This week I am grateful for

1. Coffee in bed. Life can be so busy. I love being able to slow down, enjoy Sunday morning sleep in’s with nothing planned.

2. My dog. Thor is 14 years old and nearly blind, deaf and a little bit crazy. We love him so much.

3. Quiet time. Some days I need to slow down and take a rest to recharge my battery.

4. Beautiful artwork.

5. Music.

Coffee, dogs, art and music provide comfort to my soul.

This post feels like a quiet reminder to me to slow things down and find joy in the little things.

Saturday’s Grateful Post

Today I am grateful that I can choose what news to invite into my world.

I have the choice turn off the television.

I have the choice to close my newspaper app.

As Thich Nhat Hanh said:

“If we consume toxic magazine articles, movies, or video games, they will feed our craving, our anger, and our fear. If we set aside time each day to be in a peaceful environment, to walk in nature, or even just to look at a flower or the sky, then that beauty will penetrate us and feed our love and our joy.”

Fridays Grateful Thought

Today I am grateful for the power of the ocean to soothe my soul.

I feel anxious about the state of the world. Every time I read the newspaper I feel more discombobulated.

Today I swam in the ocean.

It felt good.

Fridays Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for the first three days of our cruise.

We were welcomed on to our cruise on Wednesday afternoon after a long day of queueing and paperwork thanks to Covid.

Our first champagne at 5pm tasted very good.

The first proper cruising day we visited the Lacepedes. This area is an important breeding habitat for green turtles and it has been named byBirdlife International as an Important Bird Area.

My photos don’t do any justice to the number of turtles and the amazing bird life.

On Friday we visited Fresh Water Cove and walked up to Cyclone Cave in the morning. We were lucky enough to visit a cave that included aboriginal art.

In the afternoon we visited Montgomery Reef. – the largest inshore reef system where the massive daily movement of water creates turbulent rivers and mini waterfalls.

The water went from this

To this .

This amazing change took 12 minutes.

Our day finished with a lovely meal.

Until next time

Thursdays Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for our three days in Broome.

We flew in from Brisbane on Sunday.

David organized three wonderful tours.

The first evening we did a cruise with seven courses of tastes of the sea.

We were lucky to see whales and we learnt about pearls.

The second day we did a scenic flight over the Horizontal Falls, a boat trip around the Buccaneer Archipelago and a visit to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm.

The third day we spent a beautiful day out at

https://www.williecreekpearls.com.au/

It was a great day and one I would highly recommend. The information, the friendliness of the staff and the pearl experience were wonderful. It is a family run business and the owner was very helpful and lovely.

What a wonderful three days and for those that are wondering we have supported the local pearl community.

Until next time

Tuesdays Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for mornings!

David and I started the day with a walk – which I love.

Today I am grateful we didn’t get bitten by a snake or eaten by a crocodile!

Today I am grateful that a building site we walked past was playing one of my favourite songs.

What a fabulous start to the day!

Until next time

Tuesday’s Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for sunrises.

I am a real morning person.

I love the sunrise.

I love the sunset too but by the time the end of the day comes I just want to eat dinner, put my feet up and climb into bed.

I don’t often sit and appreciate the sunset.

Sunrise on the other hand is something I am often up to observe.

I love that no matter how difficult my day has been the day before, I know the sun is going to rise the next day.

I love the thought that I have a whole day ahead of me to make a difference to my life or someone else’s life.

This mornings sunrise was pretty special! I was so grateful to be able to share it with my daughter Lucy.

Until next time

Sundays Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for a chair.

When my grandma died I asked if I could have her little rocking chair.

Over the years it had deteriorated.

After many years I finally decided to have it restored.

I am thrilled with the result.

I now have a beautiful chair that I can use and it is a beautiful reminder of my Gran.

Thank you to my lovely friend Megan for her help to do this.

Until next time

Sunday’s Grateful Post

Today I am grateful for cupcakes.

A cupcake is like a little pocket of joy! It’s not like a big slice of cake that fills you up. If it is a good cup cake it is a bit bigger than a mouthful of heaven and it leaves you wanting more.

My favourite places to buy cupcakes in Brisbane are Judy C or Vanilla Pod.

I have even eaten a cupcake from a vending machine.

I have tried a red velvet cupcake from Magnolia Bakery in New York – the girls from Sex in the City made this bakery famous.

Do you have a favourite treat?

Until next Sunday.
