Day 39

Today is the last day of my holiday. Tomorrow I fly home. David and I had the choice of a Moroccan cooking class or traveling overland into the Atlas Mountains today. We chose to explore some of the Atlas Mountains. We drove through a valley with villages clinging to the sides of the valley. We visited some local villages and ventured into the wilderness to see some of the mountains.

After exploring we drove to Sir Richard Branson’s property Kasbah Tamadot and had lunch. We ran into a lovely friend who was staying there. It is wonderful to see friends when travelling and what an amazing place to run into Louise Wilson and her friend Louise Hourigan. The world is so big but also so small – I think I worked with Louise Hourigan many years ago when I was a student in the oncology unit at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

After our busy day we came back to our hotel and had an afternoon nap before venturing out for our last dinner together before I came home.

We went to dinner at Bo – zin. This restaurant seemed to encompass much of the way I feel about Marrakech. It was a very groovy restaurant with beautiful food, full of very well dressed groovy people and the music was modern and fun in the middle of what seemed like nowhere. Marrakech is the most amazing mixture of an old city filled with artisans carrying on old traditions and much new development that is exciting, fun, contemporary, and arty.

Tomorrow I fly home and David flies to Milan for the next part of his adventure.
